About Sonho

Sonho, meaning "dream" in Portuguese, is a popular Brazilian doughnut: a soft, fluffy fried bun filled with sweet custard cream and dusted with sugar.

It descends from the Portuguese bola de Berlim, itself inspired by the German Berliner doughnut. In Brazil, the custard (creme) is the classic filling, but versions with dulce de leche, chocolate or guava jam are also common.

Sonhos are sold in padarias (bakeries) across Brazil and are a favorite snack with coffee in the afternoon.
