About Brigadeiro
Brigadeiro is Brazil's favorite chocolate sweet: a small, soft truffle made from sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder and butter, rolled into balls and covered in chocolate sprinkles.
The mixture is cooked in a pan and stirred constantly until it thickens and pulls away from the bottom. Once cool, it is rolled by hand and placed in small paper cups.
Brigadeiros became popular in the 1940s and are named after Brigadier Eduardo Gomes, a presidential candidate whose supporters made and sold the sweets. Today no Brazilian birthday party is complete without them.
