About Coxinha
Coxinha is a popular Brazilian snack of shredded chicken wrapped in dough, shaped like a teardrop, breaded and deep-fried. The name means "little thigh", as its shape looks like a chicken drumstick.
The dough is made from flour and chicken broth, and the filling is shredded chicken seasoned with onion, garlic and herbs, often mixed with creamy catupiry cheese.
According to legend, it was created in the 19th century for the son of Princess Isabel, who only liked chicken thighs. Coxinhas are sold in snack bars across Brazil and are a must at birthday parties.
