About Sans Rival

Sans Rival is a Filipino layered cake made of crisp cashew meringue (dacquoise) and rich French buttercream, covered in chopped toasted cashews. The name is French for "without rival".

The meringue layers are baked thin, crisp and chewy, then stacked with buttercream, so each slice has a crunchy, nutty and creamy texture. The cake is served chilled.

Its exact origins are unclear, though it is closely related to the French dacquoise. The city of Dumaguete is especially famous for it, thanks to the Sans Rival bakery founded there in 1977, and it is a popular cake for birthdays and celebrations.
