About Halo-Halo

Halo-Halo is a colorful Filipino dessert of shaved ice and evaporated milk layered with sweet beans, jellies, fruits and toppings like ube (purple yam) jam, leche flan and ice cream.

The name means "mix-mix" in Tagalog, as all the ingredients are stirred together before eating. Common ingredients include sweet red beans, jackfruit, coconut strips, sago pearls and crispy rice flakes.

It is thought to have developed from Japanese shaved ice desserts brought by Japanese immigrants. Halo-halo is the favorite summer treat of the Philippines and is sold at stalls and restaurants everywhere.
