About Sambousek
Sambousek are small Lebanese half-moon pastries filled with spiced minced meat, onions and pine nuts, or with cheese, and fried or baked until golden. They are a popular part of a mezze spread.
The meat filling is seasoned with seven-spice blend (baharat) and sometimes cinnamon, and the edges of the dough are crimped or folded to seal them. Cheese versions often use akkawi or halloumi with parsley or mint.
Sambousek are especially popular during Ramadan, when they are served at iftar. They are closely related to the samosa and are eaten in many forms across the Middle East and beyond.
