About Manakish
Manakish is a Lebanese flatbread topped with za'atar, cheese or minced meat and baked in an oven. It is the most popular breakfast in Lebanon.
The most common topping is za'atar, a mix of thyme, sumac and sesame seeds with olive oil. Another favorite is akkawi cheese, or half za'atar and half cheese.
Manakish is sold fresh from bakeries in the morning and eaten folded, often with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and mint. It is also popular in Syria, Jordan and Palestine.
