Labneh, a dish from Lebanon

Labneh

Lebanon

Also known as Labne, Strained Yogurt

About Labneh

Labneh is a thick, creamy strained yogurt cheese from Lebanon and the Levant. Yogurt is mixed with salt and hung in a cloth for a day or more so the whey drips away, leaving a soft, tangy spread.

It is served on a plate, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with za'atar, dried mint or paprika, and scooped up with flatbread. Labneh can also be rolled into small balls and preserved in olive oil.

Labneh is a common breakfast in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine, eaten with olives, tomatoes, cucumbers and mint. It is also used in sandwiches, dips and desserts.
