About Puran Poli
Puran Poli is a sweet Indian flatbread from Maharashtra, filled with a mixture of cooked chana dal (split chickpeas) and jaggery flavored with cardamom and nutmeg. It is cooked on a griddle and served with plenty of ghee.
The chana dal is boiled until soft and then cooked with jaggery until it forms a thick, sweet paste called puran. A ball of filling is wrapped in soft wheat dough and carefully rolled out thin without breaking.
Puran Poli is made for festivals like Holi, Gudi Padwa and Diwali. It is also popular in Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, where it is known as holige, obbattu or bobbatlu, and is often served with milk or a thin soup called katachi amti.
