About Pastitsio
Pastitsio is a Greek baked pasta dish with layers of tube-shaped pasta and spiced meat sauce, topped with a thick layer of creamy béchamel sauce.
The meat sauce is made from ground beef or lamb with tomatoes, onions, red wine and cinnamon. The pasta is often mixed with cheese and egg so the layers hold their shape when cut.
Pastitsio is a favorite family meal for Sundays and celebrations. It is related to Italian baked pasta and is also popular in Cyprus.
