About Hummus
Hummus is a creamy dip of mashed chickpeas blended with tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice, garlic and salt. It is one of the best-known foods of the Middle East.
Traditionally it is served spread on a plate in a swirl, with a pool of olive oil in the middle, a sprinkling of paprika or sumac and whole chickpeas or parsley on top.
Hummus is eaten across Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Israel and Egypt, and several countries claim it. It is scooped up with warm pita bread as part of a mezze and has become popular around the world.
