About Fish and Chips

Fish and Chips is Britain's most famous takeaway: a fillet of white fish, usually cod or haddock, dipped in batter and deep-fried, served with thick-cut fried potatoes.

The batter is often made with beer, which makes it light and crispy. The dish is seasoned with salt and malt vinegar and commonly served with mushy peas and tartar sauce.

Fried fish was brought to England by Jewish immigrants from Portugal and Spain, and it was combined with chips in the 1860s in London and northern England. Fish and chips became a staple of working-class life and is still sold in chip shops across the UK.
