About Sticky Toffee Pudding

Sticky Toffee Pudding is a British dessert of moist sponge cake made with finely chopped dates, covered in a rich toffee sauce. It is usually served warm with vanilla ice cream, custard or cream.

The dates are soaked in hot water with baking soda, which softens them and gives the cake its dark color. The toffee sauce is made from butter, brown sugar, cream and sometimes black treacle.

The pudding became famous in the 1970s at the Sharrow Bay Hotel in England's Lake District, and the nearby village of Cartmel is also known for it. It is now a classic in British pubs and restaurants.
