About Tourtière

Tourtière is a Québécois meat pie made with ground pork, beef or veal, potatoes and onions, seasoned with warm spices like cloves, cinnamon and allspice, baked in a flaky pastry crust.

It is a traditional dish of French Canadians, especially at Christmas and New Year's Eve, when it is served after midnight mass at the réveillon.

The name may come from the tourte, the dish it was baked in. In the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, a deep pie with cubed meat and potatoes is also called tourtière. It is served with ketchup or fruit chutney.
