About Beef and Mustard Pie
Beef and Mustard Pie is a traditional British pie with chunks of beef slowly simmered in rich gravy, sharpened with mustard and baked under a puff or shortcrust pastry lid. The mustard cuts through the richness of the meat and gravy, giving the pie a gentle tang.
The beef is first browned with onions, dusted with flour and cooked slowly in stock until tender and the sauce is thick. English or wholegrain mustard is stirred in towards the end so it keeps some of its bite.
