About Shrimp Scampi
Shrimp Scampi is an Italian-American dish of shrimp cooked in butter, garlic, white wine and lemon juice, finished with parsley and red pepper flakes. It is often served over spaghetti or linguine, or with bread.
In Italy, scampi are langoustines, small lobster-like shellfish. Italian immigrants in the United States replaced them with shrimp but kept the name, which is why "shrimp scampi" uses both words.
It is quick to make, the shrimp cooking in just a few minutes. Shrimp scampi is a staple of Italian-American restaurants and home cooking.
