About Pączki
Pączki are rich Polish doughnuts made from a dough of eggs, butter, sugar and milk, deep-fried and filled with jam or cream. They are covered with powdered sugar, glaze or candied orange peel.
Traditional fillings are rose petal jam and plum jam. A splash of spirit is often added to the dough to keep it from absorbing too much oil.
Pączki are eaten on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the last Thursday before Lent, when Poles eat millions of them. In the United States, Polish communities celebrate Pączki Day on Fat Tuesday.
