About Kunafa
Kunafa is a famous Middle Eastern dessert made of a soft, stretchy cheese or cream filling between layers of shredded pastry or semolina dough, baked until golden and drenched in sweet syrup.
The fine pastry threads, called kataifi, are mixed with butter so they bake into a crunchy crust. Syrup scented with rose or orange blossom water is poured over while the dessert is still hot, and it is topped with crushed pistachios.
Kunafa is loved across Egypt and the Arab world and is especially popular during Ramadan. The Palestinian city of Nablus is famous for its cheese kunafa, while Egypt also has many versions with cream, nuts or mango.
