About Ful Medames
Ful Medames is a staple Egyptian dish of slowly cooked fava beans, mashed and seasoned with olive oil, cumin, garlic and lemon juice. It is the most common breakfast in Egypt.
The beans are traditionally cooked overnight in a large pot called a qidra. They are served topped with chopped tomatoes, parsley, onions, hard-boiled eggs and tahini.
Ful has been eaten in Egypt since ancient times. It is served from carts across Cairo every morning and eaten with pita bread, falafel and pickles.
