About Harira

Harira is a hearty Moroccan soup of tomatoes, lentils and chickpeas, often with pieces of lamb or beef, flavored with ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, celery and lots of fresh herbs.

It is thickened with flour or eggs and finished with broken vermicelli or rice. Lemon juice is added at the end, giving it a fresh, tangy flavor.

Harira is most famous as the soup that breaks the fast during Ramadan, served with dates and sweet chebakia pastries. It is also eaten at weddings and on cold winter evenings.
