About Glazed Ham

Glazed Ham is a large cooked ham coated in a sweet, sticky glaze and baked until shiny and caramelized. It is the centerpiece of many American holiday meals, especially at Easter and Christmas.

The skin is removed and the fat underneath is scored in a diamond pattern, often with a clove pressed into each diamond. The glaze is usually made of brown sugar or honey, mustard and vinegar or fruit juice, and pineapple slices are a classic retro decoration.

Because the ham is already cured, it mainly needs warming and glazing. Glazed ham is also popular at Christmas in the UK, Australia and Scandinavia, and the leftovers are used for sandwiches and soups.
