About Lobster Roll
The Lobster Roll is a New England sandwich of chunks of lobster meat served in a buttered, toasted bun. It is a summer favorite at seafood shacks along the coast of Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
There are two main styles. The Maine style is served cold with mayonnaise, sometimes with celery, lemon and chives, while the Connecticut style is served warm with melted butter. The bun is a top-split roll, buttered and grilled on its flat sides.
Lobster rolls became popular in the 20th century and are now sold far beyond New England. They are usually served with chips, fries or coleslaw.
