About Pancakes
American Pancakes are thick, fluffy pancakes made from a batter of flour, eggs, milk, butter and baking powder, cooked on a hot griddle and served in a stack. They are a classic American breakfast.
Baking powder or buttermilk with baking soda makes the batter rise, so the pancakes are light and airy, unlike thin European crêpes. They are flipped when bubbles appear on the surface.
Pancakes are usually topped with butter and maple syrup, and often with blueberries, bananas or chocolate chips. They are served at diners across the United States, often with bacon or sausages.
