About Curd Rice
Curd Rice is a simple, cooling South Indian dish of soft-cooked rice mixed with yogurt (called curd in India) and seasoned with spices. It is known as thayir sadam in Tamil.
The rice is mashed with yogurt and a little milk, then finished with a tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, ginger and asafoetida fried in oil. Grated carrot, cucumber or pomegranate seeds are sometimes added.
Curd rice is usually eaten at the end of a South Indian meal, as it is believed to cool the body and help digestion. It is also offered at temples and is a popular lunchbox dish.
