About Bratwurst
Bratwurst is a German sausage made from finely minced pork, sometimes mixed with veal or beef, and seasoned with spices such as marjoram, caraway, nutmeg and ginger. It is usually grilled or pan-fried until the skin is crisp and golden.
Germany has dozens of regional versions. Nuremberg is famous for its small, finger-sized Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, served six or twelve at a time, while the long, coarse Thuringian bratwurst is cooked over charcoal and sold at markets and football stadiums.
The name comes from Old High German: "brät" means finely chopped meat and "wurst" means sausage. Bratwurst is commonly served in a bread roll with mustard, or on a plate with sauerkraut and potato salad.
