About Bibimbap

Bibimbap is a Korean rice bowl topped with an array of seasoned vegetables, beef and a fried or raw egg, served with a spoonful of gochujang (chili paste). The name means "mixed rice", because everything is stirred together before eating.

The colorful toppings, called namul, usually include spinach, bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms and zucchini, each seasoned separately with sesame oil, garlic and soy sauce. Thinly sliced marinated beef is often added.

A popular version is dolsot bibimbap, served in a very hot stone bowl so the rice at the bottom becomes golden and crispy. The city of Jeonju is especially famous for its bibimbap.
