About Bulgogi

Bulgogi is a Korean dish of thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then grilled or pan-fried. The name means "fire meat".

The marinade is made from soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic and black pepper, often with grated Asian pear, which helps tenderize the meat. Ribeye or sirloin is usually used.

Bulgogi dates back to the Goguryeo period of Korean history. It is cooked at the table on a grill or in a pan and eaten wrapped in lettuce leaves with rice and ssamjang paste, along with kimchi and other side dishes.
