About Yakitori

Yakitori are Japanese skewers of chicken grilled over charcoal. The name means "grilled bird".

Almost every part of the chicken is used, including thigh, breast, skin, liver, heart and meatballs (tsukune). They are seasoned with salt (shio) or a sweet soy-based glaze (tare) made from soy sauce, mirin, sake and sugar.

Yakitori is a classic izakaya (Japanese pub) food, eaten with beer. Small yakitori stalls and restaurants are found in train stations and alleys across Japan.
