About Turrón

Turrón is a Spanish nougat made from honey, sugar, egg whites and toasted almonds. It is the most traditional Christmas sweet in Spain.

There are two classic kinds: hard Turrón de Alicante, a crunchy bar of whole almonds in honey nougat, and soft Turrón de Jijona, in which the almonds are ground into a smooth paste. Both come from the region of Valencia.

Turrón is believed to have arrived in Spain with the Moors. Today there are many flavors, including chocolate, coconut and egg yolk, and it is shared with family and guests at Christmas.
