About Tonkatsu
Tonkatsu is a Japanese dish of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet coated in light, crispy panko breadcrumbs.
It was created in the late 19th century as a Japanese version of European cutlets and became a favorite "yōshoku" (Western-style) dish. Both pork loin (rosu) and fillet (hire) are used.
Tonkatsu is served sliced with finely shredded cabbage, rice, miso soup and a thick, fruity tonkatsu sauce. It is also used in katsudon and katsu sandwiches.
