About Pho
Phở is Vietnam's most famous dish: a bowl of rice noodles in a clear, fragrant beef broth, topped with thin slices of beef and fresh herbs.
The broth is simmered for many hours with beef bones and charred onion and ginger, and flavored with star anise, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. Raw beef slices are added and cook in the hot broth.
Phở comes from northern Vietnam in the early 20th century. In the south, it is served with bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime and chilies. It is a popular breakfast across Vietnam.
