About Banh Mi Chao
Banh Mi Chao is a Vietnamese breakfast served sizzling in a small cast-iron pan. Fried eggs share the pan with pâté, sausage or ham, and small meatballs, and the dish is eaten with a crusty baguette on the side for dipping and scooping.
"Chảo" means pan, so the name translates to "bread with pan". The dish is a Vietnamese take on a French-style meat-and-egg breakfast, and the sizzling pan keeps everything hot until the last bite.
It is often served with a little meat sauce or tomato sauce, sliced onion, cucumber and chili, plus soy sauce or Maggi seasoning to taste. It is a popular sit-down breakfast in Ho Chi Minh City, usually with a glass of strong Vietnamese iced coffee.
