About Panettone
Panettone is a tall, dome-shaped Italian sweet bread from Milan, filled with candied orange and citron peel and raisins. It is the most popular Christmas cake in Italy.
Making panettone takes time and skill. The rich dough of flour, eggs, butter and sugar is leavened with a natural sourdough starter and left to rise several times over a day or more. After baking, the loaves are hung upside down to cool so they don't collapse.
The result is a light, airy, slightly tangy bread. Panettone is eaten throughout the Christmas season, often with sweet wine, coffee or mascarpone cream, and is exported around the world.
