About Mämmi
Mämmi is a traditional Finnish Easter dessert made from rye flour and malted rye, slowly baked into a dark, thick pudding. It has a sweet and slightly bitter taste.
The mixture is sweetened naturally by the malt and sometimes with molasses, then baked for hours in the oven. It was traditionally baked in boxes made of birch bark.
Mämmi is eaten cold with cream and sugar, or vanilla sauce. Its dark brown appearance surprises many visitors, but it is a beloved Easter tradition in Finland.
