About Laksa

Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in Malaysia and Singapore, made with rice noodles in a rich broth flavored with chili, lemongrass and seafood.

There are two main types. Curry laksa uses a coconut milk curry broth with shrimp, chicken or tofu. Asam laksa, from Penang, uses a sour broth of fish and tamarind, with no coconut.

Laksa comes from the Peranakan culture, which mixes Chinese and Malay cooking. Each state in Malaysia has its own version, and it is a favorite at hawker centers.
