About Kimbap
Kimbap is a Korean rice roll made by spreading cooked rice on a sheet of seaweed (gim), adding colorful fillings and rolling it up tightly before slicing it into rounds. It looks similar to Japanese sushi rolls but is quite different in flavor.
The rice is seasoned with sesame oil and salt rather than vinegar. Typical fillings include yellow pickled radish (danmuji), carrots, spinach, egg omelet, fish cake, crab sticks or seasoned beef, and the outside is often brushed with more sesame oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds.
Kimbap is a favorite picnic and travel food in South Korea, packed for school trips and sold in convenience stores and snack shops. Its many fillings make each slice colorful.
