About Idli
Idli are soft, round steamed cakes made from a fermented batter of rice and urad dal (black gram lentils). They are one of the most common breakfasts in South India.
The batter is ground and left to ferment overnight, which makes the idlis light and fluffy with a slightly sour taste. They are steamed in special molds with round dips.
Idlis are served with coconut chutney and sambar, a lentil and vegetable stew, and sometimes with a spicy powder mixed with oil. They are light and easy to digest.
