About Falooda
Falooda is a cold, layered dessert drink from South Asia, made with rose syrup, milk, thin vermicelli noodles, soaked basil seeds (sabja) and often jelly, topped with a scoop of ice cream and chopped nuts.
It is served in a tall glass, showing pretty pink and white layers. The basil seeds swell into small, jelly-like pearls, and the vermicelli adds a soft, slippery texture.
Falooda is descended from the Persian faloodeh and was brought to India by Muslim rulers. It is a popular summer treat in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, sold at sweet shops and street stalls, especially in Mumbai.
