Francesinha

About Francesinha
Francesinha is a huge, rich sandwich from Porto, Portugal. Layers of bread are filled with steak, ham and sausages, covered with melted cheese and soaked in a hot, spicy tomato and beer sauce.
The sauce is the secret of each restaurant and is often made with beer, tomato, port wine and piri piri. A fried egg is usually placed on top, and it is served with a plate of fries for dipping.
The name means "little Frenchie". It was created in the 1950s by Daniel da Silva, a Portuguese emigrant who returned from France and adapted the croque monsieur to local tastes.
