About Croissant
The Croissant is a buttery, flaky, crescent-shaped pastry and a symbol of the French breakfast. It is made from a yeast dough layered with butter, which is rolled and folded many times to create dozens of thin layers.
When baked, the water in the butter turns to steam, separating the layers and making the pastry light and airy with a crisp, golden crust.
The croissant was inspired by the Austrian kipferl, which was brought to Paris in the 19th century by an Austrian baker named August Zang. French bakers developed the laminated dough that makes the modern croissant.
