About Cevapi
Ćevapi are small, finger-shaped grilled sausages of minced meat, popular across the Balkans, including Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are made from beef, lamb or pork, seasoned with garlic, salt and pepper, and grilled over charcoal.
They are usually served in portions of five or ten, tucked into a soft flatbread called lepinja or somun, with chopped raw onions. They are often eaten with kajmak, a creamy dairy spread, and ajvar, a roasted red pepper relish.
The dish arrived in the region during Ottoman rule and is related to Turkish köfte. Each city has its own style, and Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Leskovac are especially famous for their ćevapi.
