About Vada Pav
Vada Pav is Mumbai's favorite street food: a spicy potato fritter (batata vada) served in a soft bread roll (pav) with chutneys. It is often called the "Indian burger".
The potato filling is seasoned with mustard seeds, garlic, green chilies and turmeric, then coated in gram flour batter and deep-fried. It is served with spicy dry garlic chutney, green chutney and fried green chilies.
Vada pav was created in the 1960s near Dadar station in Mumbai by Ashok Vaidya, to feed textile mill workers. It is cheap, filling and sold everywhere in Mumbai.
