About Satay
Satay is grilled skewered meat from Indonesia, served with a rich peanut sauce. Small pieces of chicken, beef, goat or lamb are marinated in spices and grilled over charcoal.
The marinade typically includes shallots, garlic, lemongrass, coriander and turmeric, along with sweet soy sauce. The peanut sauce is made from ground roasted peanuts, coconut milk, chili and palm sugar.
Satay is sold by street vendors across Indonesia, often cooked on small charcoal grills fanned to keep the coals hot. Java's sate madura and Padang's sate padang are famous regional versions, and satay is also very popular in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
