About Mooncake
Mooncakes are round Chinese pastries with a thin, shiny crust and a rich, dense filling, eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The top is pressed with decorative patterns or characters from a wooden mold.
The classic Cantonese mooncake is filled with smooth lotus seed paste and often has one or two salted duck egg yolks inside, which look like the full moon when cut. Other fillings include red bean paste and mixed nuts.
The festival takes place on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is believed to be brightest. Families gather to admire the moon and share mooncakes, which are also given as gifts.
