About Chapli Kebab

Chapli Kebab is a flat, round, spicy minced meat patty from Peshawar in north-west Pakistan. It is a specialty of Pashtun cooking.

Minced beef or mutton is mixed with onions, tomatoes, green chilies, coriander leaves, crushed coriander seeds and dried pomegranate seeds, which give a tangy flavor. The patties are fried in a large pan, traditionally in animal fat, until crispy on the outside.

The name comes from the Pashto word chaprikh, meaning flat. Chapli kebabs are served hot with naan, raita and salad, and are a favorite street food in Peshawar and across Pakistan and Afghanistan.
