About Tostones

Tostones are twice-fried slices of green plantain, a crispy snack or side dish eaten across the Caribbean and Latin America, including the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba.

Green, unripe plantain is cut into thick slices and fried until soft, then flattened with a press or the bottom of a glass and fried again until golden and crunchy. They are sprinkled with salt while still hot.

Tostones are served with garlic sauce (mojo) or other dipping sauces alongside meat, fish or rice and beans. In Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador they are known as patacones.
